Mother’s Day High Tea @ Adore Tea, Gold Creek

I spent Mother’s Day photographing many wonderful mothers with their families at the Mother’s Day High Tea celebrations at Adore Tea, Gold Creek. Despite the wet weather mums were out in force, sporting all sorts of umbrellas, with lap blankets being handed out on arrival.

The staff at Adore Tea put on a wonderful day with attention to detail and great service. I’ll be sure to be one of the attending crowd next year!

If you were lucky enough to attend this year (8th May 2016) and had your photo taken by myself, please follow the link below to view your photos from the day.

10am – Mother’s Day High Tea @ Adore Tea

I hope you enjoy them and please feel free to browse the rest of my website.

Celebrating Motherhood – Mother’s Day mini sessions

My son Nash is 11 months old now and I’ve been preparing myself mentally for returning to working as a photographer as well as a mother.

After I had our daughter Poppy I started working for Sage Photography producing newborn & maternity shoots, as well as family portraits. Some of my work can be seen at the following links here & here.

It was a very different work atmosphere for me and one that I hope to return to, with great colleagues and a new environment to perfect my ‘baby portrait & positioning’ skills. It felt so great to be involved in an industry that was so relevant to the experiences I was having as a new mother.

It made me realise how much of a different place I was in compared with five years ago. I was immersed in a maternal world of mothers, parents, babies, pregnancy & kids. While I have photographed all of these previously, I can now relate and understand in a way only another mother can. It was amazing to bring skills from both my professional and private life together so naturally and I think this has been evident in my success in making heart melting imagery.

I’m proud to be a mother and embrace all the challenges, changes and joys it offers me in life. I also feel that through my photography I have something to offer other mums and I’m loving the position I find myself in regarding this. I want to celebrate all things maternal – pregnancy, birth, partners, mums, breast feeding, families, babies, kids, siblings – and I want to photograph it all!

I had already discovered my interest in documenting Birth Stories but due to my own children’s nightly feeding demands I have been unable to partake any opportunities.

However, the time feels right for me to pursue this line of work now, and in the following few weeks I’ll be putting together some packages for the above mentioned subjects for your viewing, including all varieties of portraits and most excitingly Birth Stories.

MumDayMiniSess2016I couldn’t think of a better opportunity to begin my maternal themed offerings other than by celebrating Mother’s Day! This is a fantastic opportunity for me to photograph your little ones and help you to give your Mum an individual and affordable gift.

This coming long weekend, 23rd & 24th April, I’ll be delighting in photographing adorable little faces in my Mother’s Day mini sessions at Canberra Nara Park (Japanese Gardens) on Flynn Drive, behind the Hyatt Hotel.

Mother’s Day falls on Sunday 8th May, and all mini session participants will be receiving their 8×12 inch fine art print in time to give it to Mum. Of course additional prints are available or if you cannot make the specified dates then gift vouchers for portrait sessions are also an optional gift for Mum this year.

If you or anyone you know would be interested in any of the portrait sessions, Birth Stories or upcoming Mother’s Day mini sessions then please share this post, email or call to ensure a spot is reserved for you and your little ones.

I look forward to meeting some wonderful parents and capturing some beautiful little faces.

Holly xx

So I’ve been creating, just not in the way you think….

Wow. Hello.

It’s been SO so so long since blog posting, I even had to take three attempts at my password! My apologies, but I do have a good excuse…. I’ve been creating more little people…. Welcome Nash, the new addition to our family, now 11 months old! eeeek! where has that time gone?!?!?!

I’ve tried hard to do the same as I did with our daughter Poppy, and photograph him at around the same date each month for his first 12 months of his life, and I thought I was behind in editing/posting photos of Poppy (and only got to 6 months of age) but this has been a whole new level of busy!

I sat down the other day for the first time and actually began to edit Nash’s newborn pics, some of which I hadn’t even seen yet! And as embarrassing as that is, I have to congratulate myself a little in at least having taken all the pics I’ve wanted to each month, I know they are there, safely sleeping on my hard drive, I just haven’t had the time to look at them since downloading. BUT, I’m committed to them having a life and dancing across my blog pages as soon as possible. So here’s a little taste of what’s to come… Nash, May 2015, 12 days old xx

Bespoke Frames by Scott Clements

Another great way to bring your photos to life is with beautiful bespoke frames! There’s nothing new in this idea, but more people need to start doing it ~ it gives visitors something to admire on your walls and will bring a smile to your face every time you see your favourite images staring back at you, reminding you of a time and a place or simply pleasing you aesthetically.

This timber frame was custom made by my partner Scott Clements   to frame my image titled ‘When I grow up’.

The image was taken while traveling through Vietnam in early 2010. It was one of many that were exhibited at Cafe Yala, Canberra Institute of Technology. The show was called ‘Watching you watching me’ after which I gifted the framed print to a good friend of mine, Kristen. It now hangs proudly on her bedroom wall and I see it more at her house than my own (I know, I need to take my own advice!)

Thus, I can’t express enough how wonderful it is to see it living and being enjoyed by others and I will en devour to decorate my new home with some of my own work, bringing it out of my archives and onto the walls. xx

Karyn & Jay give life to thier wedding photos…

In this digital age it is so easy to take millions of photos and catalog them all on our computers, but who ever sees them?

It is therefore increasingly important to give life to your photos through prints, cards, albums etc. and what better way to share your wedding photos than with a coffee table book telling your own unique love story?

I love finishing a wedding by bringing the photos together and handing over an album that I’ve designed knowing that the photos will see the light of day. Your photos deserve to be enjoyed by family & friends.

Karyn & Jay were married at the Old Stone House gardens in Bungendore, NSW Australia. They chose satin pages and a beautiful micro leather cover for their coffee table book in the colour Shadow. To see more photos  of Karyn & Jay’s wedding in a previous blog post please click here.

Thank you for allowing me to complete your love story through to the end, I hope you are enjoying your album as much as I enjoyed making it. xx

A recent portrait shoot for Acuity Magazine, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand included capturing the stunning and photogenic Allyson at the Nara Japanese Gardens, Canberra. The remains of Autumn ~ Portraits of Jess & Leon

In the last days of Autumn I managed to find some spectacular colour remaining to capture Jess & Leon against. It was a short & sweet shoot but I’m so glad to have photographed them in familiar surrounds, close to home. I have many sweet memories of wandering the Curtin horse paddocks and storm water drain as a young teenager with Jess. It was such a unique experience to then take our own children to the same places we used to play. Thanks Jess for the opportunity to relive some good times and create many more. xx

Sneak Peek at Freya’s recent newborn shoot

Two years ago I photographed the cheeky Isobel pictured below when she was newborn, and now I’ve had the delight of photographing her younger sister Freya. I’m still editing the images, but couldn’t wait to share these few beauties with you – just adorable! xx

Leonie & Sean wed amongst family, friends & phoenix’s ~ 2014

Friday was a beautiful day to be getting married, the weather held out and the happiness between Leonie & Sean could be seen miles away! It was such a sweet afternoon, a simple garden gathering of friends & family at Pod Food in Pialligo.

The highlights included Sean’s first words being “I do” even though that wasn’t the question or answer required! And of course their son’s emotional response to being taken away from his parents during the whole group photograph…. but he made up for it in his gorgeous little outfit of pants, check shirt and braces.

Photographing such a beautiful little family reminded me of my own and I thoroughly enjoyed capturing their love and joy together. Another highlight, apart from the beautiful lush surrounds, were Leonie’s gorgeous dress which drew attention to her incredibly detailed phoenix tattoo. I’d only heard about it, so when I walked into the girls room at the Hyatt hotel I was amazed and intrigued… needless to say I got straight to clicking my shutter, capturing it in as many images as possible!

Thanks for inviting me to take part in your special day guys, the pleasure was all mine. xx

Autumn Delight for Mother’s Day ~ May 2014

For Mother’s Day this year my sister and I decided to produce a little autumn colour to decorate our Mum’s walls. We took the kids out to the Sensory Gardens in Queanbeyan and produced a beautiful little collection of photographs. A selection of them were printed and framed and now hang proudly on mum’s wall. Love you Mum, and thanks for your patience kids! xx
